Read about Legacy’s life-changing impact — from the kids themselves.
Legacy is providing a brighter future for many students. The impact that this has on these children is incredible; but don’t take our word for it, read some of the letters that the children and their family members have written to express how much your generosity means to them.

The Han’s Story
In June 2014 my family and I were sent to Houlton and Hodgdon United Methodist Churches. At that time my wife, Joyce, and I had two children – Lydia and Abe. In the fall of that year Lydia went to a public pre-kindergarten where she struggled to find her place to fit in mainly due to her language and cultural barrier. Everyone seemed to be friendly, but it was hard for her to make friends. After much prayers, we decided to try a Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) in the following year. The school definitely felt like a welcoming and relaxing place. Lydia felt a sense of community there and adapted pretty well to the school. Now she is in 4th grade and still loving the school. Her own comment is as follows:
Thank you so much for the scholarship. Without you I probably won’t never been able to go to this wonderful school. I really like going to this school. I have a lot of good Christian friends here. Going to school here has taught me to be a better Christian and many other things. I learn more about God each day. I like homework and work, but my favorite subject is English. I love reading and writing. Thank you again and bless you!”
Abe is a typical second child. He is silly, funny, creative, and laid-back. When he entered a pre- kindergarten at GHCA, frankly Joyce and I were concerned that he could make himself understood in English. Thanks to his wonderful teacher and loving classmates, he enjoyed his first year very much. And now, he is blossoming there. His number one gratitude list at his bedtime prayer every night is going to this school. The following is his own thank-you note: “Thank you for everything! I love school because I have Christian friends. I also love school because I learn about God, and my friends are very nice. I enjoy school. Have a nice day! Love, Abe”
Grace is our number three. This is her first year at GHCA. Grace is kind of a competitive pre-k kid. Though she is on the younger side (4 yrs), she gets easily frustrated and upset if she is not on the first place in her class. Recently, she had an Olympic day at school. She got first place in two events. What surprised me was that she gave one of her medals to her classmate who didn’t have any medal. I can see Grace learning Christian ethics and worldview. The other day I asked, “Grace, what do you like about your school?” And she said, “I like my school because it’s fun!”
At our dinner table we share our highs and lows of the day. Oftentimes it’s challenging to do it with our five little ones. But as I hear their stories, I see them grow. I see their love for God and neighbor grow. My prayer is that my family and I may pass on the blessings we have received from Legacy to others through our lives. Thank you!
